Up Next: Digital Meets Physical Hardware Hackathon on Jan 28

47 Seats are going fast for Betaspring's first ever hardware hackathon on January 28-29. Digital Meets Physical: A Hardware Hackathon will bring makers, software hackers, and DIY geeks together for two days of maker fun. We've teamed up with Netduino, KippKitts, GreenGoose and the AS220 Labs to offer participants some awesome tools and toys to fuel the maker madness.

Hackers will have access to the AS220 Labs, a hackerspace where tools, technology and inspiration abound.  With no less than 10 top quality watering holes within spitting distance, power breaks and refueling will be top notch.

Prep Classes:
Thanks to Kipp Bradford we're offering two pre-event classes to help participants refresh their skills or come up-to-speed on some of the basics that will help you have a great experience on January 28.  The first class, Making 101, will be held on Sunday, January 15 from 1-6pm. The second class, Physical Computing 101 will be held Tuesday, January 17, 6-9pm. Both classes will be held at AS200 Labs in Providence. Registration is free but seats are limited. More info and registration at https://hackathoncrashcourse.eventbrite.com.

Hackathon Tool Kit:
Never played with the Netduino?  This open source electronics platform uses the .NET Micro Framework and features a 32-bit micro controller and a rich development environment that's fully open to users. Use the design files and sample projects to learn and be inspired, then remix 'em until you get what you want, how you want it.

Kippkitts enable devices to heat, cool, measure, move, and control things around you. KippKitts products currently include low-voltage, high-efficiency vapor cycle heat pumps, remote controlled battery powered solenoids, high-power PID servo actuators, and Netduino compatible shields for motor control, temperature management, lighting control, wireless interfaces, among other cool things.

GreenGoose sensors make doing everyday things more playful!  They're wireless stickers that measure action and activity.  Stick them on anything and they automatically report and record what's happening. We're excited that GreenGoose founder and Betaspring alum Brian Krejcarek will be providing us with sensor kits for the
Hackathon.

Netduino creator Chris Walker and Kippkitts inventor Kipp Bradford will be hacking with us, on site to answer questions and inspire you to bring your A-game. The Hackathon will be held at Betaspring's new offices at 95 Chestnut. Pre-registration is required and very few seats remain. Register for free at http://digitalmeetsphysical.eventbrite.com.
